From Manual Excel Lists to Scalable Growth: How Deer Mobility Expanded with Wunder Mobility
Deer Mobility’s journey with Wunder Mobility is a story of transformation — from manual operations and fragile legacy systems to automation, scalability, and renewed confidence. What started as a complex migration became a turning point for both sides: a proof that technology, trust, and collaboration can unlock new growth in shared mobility.

Rebuilding Trust — and a Platform That Scales
When Deer Mobility joined Wunder Mobility, it wasn’t just another migration.
They had experienced difficult provider switches before, so this project was as much about rebuilding trust as it was about moving data. The challenge was ambitious: a full migration in three months, while also delivering a long list of new features critical for launch — including support for A-to-B bookings at scale. For Wunder Mobility, the project held strategic importance too. It was a chance to demonstrate that our platform could handle not only free floating sharing models but also the full operational complexity of large car-sharing fleets with hundreds of stations and multiple booking types.
The result? A successful migration, a confident customer, and a product that’s now stronger and more flexible than ever before.
From Manual Chaos to Smart Automation
Before migrating to Wunder, Deer’s operations team managed daily relocations and booking conflicts manually — using Excel spreadsheets and early-morning coordination sessions. Each day began with several employees reviewing bookings from the previous night in order to track usage patterns, select vehicles to move, and resolve outstanding conflicts. With Wunder Mobility, these processes were fully automated through the introduction of our A-to-B logic. Now, the system autonomously recognizes when vehicles move between stations, adjusts bookings accordingly, and prevents conflicts before they occur. This shift didn’t just save time; it fundamentally changed what’s possible. By eliminating manual intervention, Deer can now expand their network of stations and vehicles without adding headcount to manage the growth—allowing their team to scale operations efficiently and sustainably.
Smarter Identity Verification — Powered by Onfido
Another game-changer was the automation of driver’s licenses and ID verification. Before our partnership, Deer handled every verification manually — an employee reviewed uploads, confirmed validity, and cross-checked against an internal blacklist. Today, through Wunder Mobility’s partnership with Onfido, the process runs automatically and continuously. Within seconds, most users are verified — even on weekends — and all existing drivers are now being re-verified to ensure clean, structured data. Deer also benefits from a new fraud-prevention mechanism: users who previously violated rules are automatically blocked if they attempt to re-register with the same ID or license. Together, these changes reduced manual work, improved compliance, and created a foundation for smarter, data-driven operations.
Milestones That Mattered
From the product perspective, Deer’s journey was structured around clear, progressive milestones — each building on the success of the one before:
- Pilot & Early Deliveries: Deer tested the platform intensively to ensure it could meet their scale and reliability requirements. Early feature delivery proved our responsiveness and set the tone for collaboration.
- Feature Definition: Together, we refined the complete list of functionalities required for launch — aligning priorities between both teams.
- Delivery 1 – Core Features: Implementation of the critical foundations, including A-to-B booking support.
- Testing Phase 1: Intensive client testing validated the first release.
- Delivery 2 – Launch Blockers: Completion of final, launch-critical features.
- Testing Phase 2: Smaller, focused testing rounds ensured readiness for migration.
- Migration & Go-Live: The culmination of three months of close teamwork — resulting in a smooth transition and successful launch.
While one smaller mobile feature had to be postponed due to timing constraints, the launch delivered virtually the entire roadmap, plus several incremental improvements.
A Partnership That Builds Confidence
Beyond the technical achievements, one of the project’s biggest successes was collaboration. Over three months and more than 50 joint sessions, our teams worked side by side — balancing speed, discovery, and trust. For Deer, the switch meant more than a new system: it was a new way of operating. With Wunder, they gained full control over their mobile app, the flexibility to customize it, and ownership of their operational accounts — from the app store to fleet management tools. Our joint work with Invers, another key partner, addressed Deer’s focus on privacy and data protection. Together, we implemented a Privacy Mode that lets operators decide how much trip data is visible to end users — ensuring transparency without compromising safety.
This reflects Wunder Mobility’s broader approach: pairing technical expertise with trusted partnerships to empower operators.
Scaling Up — and What Comes Next
At launch, Deer Mobility was able to put over 220 additional vehicles on the road — cars that their previous system couldn’t support. Our flexible branch and sub-branch structure introduced new levels of control: defining user permissions, regional access, and fleet segmentation. What used to be a flat Excel list is now a dynamic system built for scale. And the journey doesn’t stop there. With their new foundation in place, Deer plans to expand further — adding more stations, more vehicles, and soon, new mobility modes. The team has already begun testing bicycles on the platform, marking their first step toward multimodality. This aligns perfectly with Wunder Mobility’s vision: a unified platform that allows operators to manage multiple vehicle categories — from cars to bikes — seamlessly in one ecosystem.
Lessons in Growth — for Both Sides
For Deer Mobility, the project delivered efficiency, scalability, and control.
For Wunder Mobility, it validated our ability to support large-scale car-sharing operations and reinforced our leadership in the sector. It also taught us a familiar but important lesson: the best outcomes happen when we don’t just build software, but build partnerships. “We didn’t just migrate a customer,” one team member put it. “We grew together — technically and strategically.”
